Currently looking for a mini or midi (or even a full size if you have it) lathe without a motor, or non-working motor to convert to a pedal powered lathe. I'm in Glen Huntly, Melbourne, but almost anywhere in Victoria should be ok for me to pick it up. So if you have one in that dusty corner of your workshop that you want to get rid of, please feel free to donate, or for a (very) small fee, I'd appreciate it if you could get in touch. I'm not picky, but will not look at the GMC type lathes that have extruded beds, only cast iron beds (sorry). Other than a lathe, if you have any v-belt pulleys, or J-type (grooved) belt pulleys, I'd also be keen on those, they will come in handy in building what could be the first 21 speed lathe (because the bicycle I picked up on the hard rubbish is a 21 speed!). Willing to throw in some firewood in the mix if it will help persuade you to part with your old lathe...

Zeeber,

You might check with some dealers to see if they have a lathe that was returned because the magic smoke came out of the variable speed controller or motor.

Have you posted a lathe wanted ad in Kiji, Gum Tree, or Ebay?

Have you considered a homemade lathe made out of wood? Such as this one? http://www.popularwoodworking.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/TreadleLathe.pdf
