Moving machinery in Melbourne [Archive]

Hello there,

I have a few machines (18" bandsaw, tablesaw, 15" thicknesser, 8" jointer) that I want to move from a storage unit to my place. Would anyone here know any companies that do this sort of thing?

I have tried a piano mover, Carbatec melbourne, and a company called Machinery Relocations Australia but haven't had any luck so far.

Just looking at the list, it is not a big load and could fit in a trailer by the look of it. Common thing is to beg, borrow or hire a car engine hoist for a day and use that to load/unload to/from a trailer and move equipment around (assuming smooth paved surfaces).

Failing that approach, ACCO (member here) owns and operates a crane truck with a fairly long reach on the boom, or Budget etc hire self drive small furniture vans with hydraulic tailgates, but the tailgate platforms are fairly small, will take a Euro pallet but not a standard Aussie one, and will not take a standard pallet jack. Moved the contents of my barn Croydon to Alex last year in 5 fully packed loads with a budget van, but ended up using 2 pallet trolleys, mine stayed in the truck for moving crates and stillages and a borrowed one stayed outside to load or unload them from the lifter. ACCO hauled the dismantled barn up on the crane truck and his second truck.

For what you have listed though, tandem trailer and engine hoist, tie downs and a couple of workers should be adequate provided you have a tow vehicle rated at 1.5 tons or so. You could also do it with a 6x4 trailer and a lower rated tow car as a couple of loads if the trip is not to long, you just have to fold/disassemble the engine crane and fit it on the trailer too. We moved all of the machinery for a fairly large metalwork factory in about 6 tandem trailer loads in a day with an engine crane about 10 years ago, just hired a tray truck for a couple of hours to move 8 tonne of metal bar and tubing stock afterwards as it ranged from 6-8m long.
