You will probaly find wood keen women a little sparse on the ground so she will probaly have to muck in with the blokes. But If you ask most of the ladies on this bb Thats very rarely a problem.

I she's a studious & systematic girl a Start her on the mike darlow series & get her a little lathe like the jet mini lathe.

Of course she should start reading & posting here.
Cant help you with clobs in your area.

Oh does this mean you are taking up sewing. :D

cheers
The more women who work wood the more will understand why.

Gumby, you are a deviate. That's what I like about you.
The things I don't like. Let me count the ways:
1. You support Collingwood.
2. You support the Pies.
3. You like Nathan Buckley, in a unhealthy way.
4. You support that club from the inner north east corner of Melbourne.
5. Many more variations on this theme.

Scott, great to hear that your wife is interested in woodturning.

May I suggest you try www.wawa.com.au
They should have an info list for Wood turning clubs that are only too willing to help in newcomers interest in upskilling in their craft.

There are quite a few women already involved ..some professionally probably.

Cheers John :)

Hi Scott,

Try Women working in wood - don't have contact details, they are south of the river so I suggest trying Timbecon (http://www.timbecon.com.au/contact-us/default-23-cm.aspx)for their details.

CarbatecWA (http://www.carbatecwa.com.au/)(Gatiep from this forum) :D run courses for turners in Balcatta. Click on Workshops, then on the GO button to the right of Woodturning courses.

Also, I thoroughly recommend the Forrest Heritage Centre (http://www.forestheritagecentre.com.au/) in Dwellingup. Great place for a weekend course - you can stay on-site.

Also, the bigger suppliers have contact lists and can probably provide more groups / courses. Also TAFE WA.

Good Luck.

Chris

You might also like to check out Liddlelow turners in Kenwick, they meet 3 times a week and are a great atmosphere - and last time I was there, there was at least one lady turner.
PM me if you need a contact number.
Cheers

Al, the problem is the people you choose to love. Like that Zed bloke. Come to think of it, is Zed a bloke?

Lola

Sometimes I have up to 50% women in my turning classes. Last month there were two, this month I have one and two school kids in the group of 6
students. The ladies usually do very well because they don't have bad woodturning habits yet and try hard to follow the instructions, with very good results. I do a introductory course every month teaching the basics, especially tool/lathe techniques and so far this year I can only remember 2 courses with no ladies......... 75% of the courses have had lady students! I find that a great number of them carry on with the intermediate course after the basic one.

As Chris said, you are welcome to look up the details at http://www.carbatecwa.com.au/ or give me a call on any Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 9 am and 3-30 on (08) 93454522.

Lola, its great to see the ladies getting involved.
Our club has a few lady members and they are doing cabinet making, scroll sawing, woodturning, carving etc. Our previous vice president was a lady.
Some of the ladies do all of their woodworking in our workshop as they don't have a home workshop or their own tools. The guys tend to do some work in our workshop and the rest at home in their own workshop. They use our workshop for the equipment they don't have at home.
On another note, I was surprised to see (in anice way) a lady at one of our general meetings knitting a jumper whilst listening to a guest speaker, but I believe ladies are good at multi-tasking
