Before anyone can offer specific advice it would be useful to know what sort of things do you make and what do you envisage using the bandsaw for?

A common size bandsaw to start with is what is known as a 14".
That means it has a 14" wide throat which limits the width of the cut you can make.
These usually can run a wide range of band sizes e.g. 3 to 19 mm.
There are lots of these in the second hand market so I'd look out for one this way.

Thanks for the reply would like to try inlay work and grain matching for doors . I have had some experience with only a butchers bandsaw from where i work and have never used a woodworkers bandsaw before.

There's not that much difference between the two.
They will both take your fingers of in a blink of an eye.

For imply work the smaller saws like the 14" are probably better for cutting out small shapes.
Depending on the size of the work you may even think about a scroll saw.
