A trip to the dump shop yielded a one dollar bowl 255mm X 100mm and about 18mm thick weighed in at 1.2kg. Straight sides, flat bottom, thick and clunky with a thick coat of yellowing Polyurathane. Very ugly.
The sticker on the bottom said " Hand crafted in Thailand. Genuine Teak."

Photos before 376305 and after it's half hour on the lathe 376306 it now weighs 670gm and about 10mm thick. Phil

A definite improvement .
The little bit of teak I have worked with was more of a light chocolate colour . This looks quite pink.

Nice one!! I've seen quite a few very ordinary looking bowls at the recyclers but it had never occured to me to re turn them. Think I'll nip down to the local tomorrow (-:

That's much better. Looks a lot lighter.
