My lovely old Bolinda four sided Moulder has some very special features, one in particular is that the top head slides of a 60 mm shaft through a large end bearing and a captive nut on the end.
The main reason for this is that the square head can then be placed in a setting stand and cutters mounted very accurately and the right projection worked out of the machine, not to mention not leaning over the machine all the time to set up, it can be tricky if you have a knife change 2 or 3 times a day.
Recently I have been doing quite a bit of ship lap and lining profiles so I have been running sets of flat knifes on the top head and jointing them for an even cut.
Time is money so they say, and so I thought I would try some thing different and I had a new spiral head made up to suit.
Its not really my style, but in its favor are less noise, and less attention and time setting up, also a big plus is that Elan would be proud of me.
I'll still be using my square head for all the profiling work...
