View Full Version : Anyone able to identify this drill press?

Saw this while browsing Gumtree and love the look of it but couldn't find any information on it.
The listing said it was a 'Laylien' but I can't quite tell if that's right from the photo.

Kept trying a ton of different spellings and it looks like it's a Jayben. It's not local to me but I'd still love to hear any opinions on them, maybe I'll happen across one locally in future.

J. C. Benbow Ltd - Jayben
They made some machine tools.

Thanks for the links, those pictures are great!
Fascinated by so much of the machinery produced around that era, they are such a beautiful mixture of function and form compared to the stuff made these days.

HI - have one of these Jayben drill presses that I am wanting to replace the bearings in the spindle and upper bearing mount.
Have managed to remove the spindle and quill but there is an upper bearing mount I cannot work out how to remove?
It looks like it is a press fit, but before I start using excessive force I want to know whether it removes from the top or the bottom?

You can remove them with bread or paper. Its very straight forward.
