What a great idea. I've got a few of the smaller German ones, and they're great. Hadn't thought about making my own, but will now. :)

More details please. Went to the Steve Maskery site but nothing posted.

Is that just Pine? How's the head attached? etc etc. A few of these would be good, particularly 1 metre +, as the commercial ones are pretty costly, and you dont need the tonnes of pressure for glueing up.

Don't you just get a buzz from making your own stuff?

Junky boy: Yes there is a 3mm drilled hole at the end of the sawn cut to prevent split (I hope)

As regards details I'll ask Steve Maskery if I can place his plan on your site.

Timber came about because I had some sycamore left over from the embroidery box project, the oak cost around 60 aus. cents per offcut of 300x270x19mm at a recent wood show. Only purchased around 12 pieces they were too heavy carrying back to the parking lot for anymore.

The secret of a good slide ;) is to have the top head centre piece the same thickness as the main pole and the sliding jaw the centre piece thickness around a quarter of a millemetre thicker than the rod.

Steve Maskery who wrote the article for Good Woodworking magazine issue 163 are very happy of display details of the Luthier clamps, although my models most probably should be classed DOUBLE BASS clamps :D

The details are now available at the link below with many other interesting projects:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/steve.maskery/resources/luthier_clamp/luthier.htm

My own measurements were:

Long bar 600 x 35 x12 mm Hard wood.
top jaw 220 x 35 x12 mm two fat and one thin (thin in centre)
bottom jaw 220 x25 x12 mm two thin (12mm) and one fat in centre.

OK my end. Have you paid your union dues lately?

Perhaps one of the high tech members can tell you how to make alterations to your IT settings.

The site is well worth visiting, I think there are video clips so I expect it is your browser settings that need tweaking?

Are you using Mozilla? I found that site doesn't work with Mozilla too. Try it with IE.
