So are the burn/black lines hiding a joint, or was it hollowed out through the hole at the top?

To me it looks ok.

I have not turned any true hollow forms so not sure what you mean by miscalculated the dimensions. I am guessing that the finial might be a little big?

That's a pretty good looking hollow form, Smife. It looks like it could stand on it's own without the finial. I believe the finial needs to be at least another inch or two taller under the top onion. Is that your miscalculation? ............. jerry (in Tucson)

Hi neil, now you have exposed my secrets,,,,,,:C
I did originally hollow it out through the top hole ,
and was not really happy, but thought that it would
be ok , then someone suggested putting It in Awtex
So I parted the top off , and cleaned the shoulder up
where my hollowing tool couldn, t reach, there was
also one of those gum viens across the top so I filled
that In too ! Glued it back together and cleaned the
whole thing up, there I have now confessed.......I
will now sleep better tonight:B

Hi christos,
The miscalculation was that the hollow vessel must
be hollowed through a hole that Is less than 20% of
the width , I should have read the rules before I sent the vessel,,,!!!:o

Overall it looks a nice piece, well finished, attractive profile and a bonus with the threaded finial.

It’s a shame you didn't read the AWTEX rules fully as the stewards and judges can be pretty strict on items meeting the entry criteria. They are pretty wizened up to the little tricks used by wood turners to gain an advantage in the HF sections and will grab a magnifying glass if they suspect a miss match in grain around beads or other embellishment. Across the Tasman one judge is known to carry an optic fibre light / camera to inspect HF's.
