I picked this little thing up yesterday. Has anyone got any papers on it.

Looks like a Lion Miter Trimmer on a Wadkin Pedestal.

I also had the thought that the pedestal had been repurposed.
Nice trimmer though.

Wallace, Heres a pic from an early cattledog.
As stated these were available with a stand.
Has a bigger bro with a capstan wheel.
If I can sort this latest 'improvement' on the PC I'll post it also.
Nothing so far on the mitre saw, so it is a rare one.

Wadkin must have made a few models as the catalogue model looks more heavy duty.
The catalog looks more like this one that came up for sale in South Africa, though still not identical:

That's a nice trimmer, particularly including the stand. My Wadkin miter trimmer below didn't come with the stand. I'm curious with yours, does it have the HA model stamped into the casting as well? Mine has it on all parts. One of the unqique attributes is the grub screws at the back of the blade that can adjust the blade towards the moving angle edge for a tighter sharper cut.

And to give perspective, I also have my other Lion Miter trimmer next to the Wadkin. The Wadkin is very big and extremely heavy - which shouldn't be unexpected, right.

can't remember were i read that Wadkin made the Oliver miter trimmer for a few years before they/Oliver machinery got set up in the USA. Could have been Chuck Hess siblings .

the reason i bring this up is the tag on the Wadkin publication is a very early one. Now its safe to say that Oliver used the Fox patent for his trimmer and perhaps this patent did not extend in to the UK.

Meanwhile, across town, Fox had in 1885 started up a rival company. In 1879, while living in Middletown, Connecticut, Fox had patented what was arguably the first workable "universal" miter trimmer. The next year he moved to Grand Rapids, where he worked for Perkins.

After founding the Fox Machine Company, Fox continued to develop his trimmer. When he hired Joseph Oliver to help sell the trimmer, he had no idea what lay ahead. After their falling out, Oliver left to work on his own trimmer, and with this he went into business with Perkins. Naturally,Perkins saw in Oliver and Oliver’s trimmer an opportunity to hit back atFox for leaving him and setting up a rival company. Perkins patented theOliver trimmer in his own name 1891.
