Now there is still hope for those to beat this record because Vann and myself are not Half way around the world from each other but :::::::::::::::::

Because we exchanged Wadkin parts and Rust junkie Ts i will record in miles our distance. but first:::

what record stood before us ?

Mini ArnFest II - A day in the middle of the Buckeye State - Old Woodworking Machines (http://www.owwm.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18766&p=91442&hilit=longest+rucker&sid=ddb2d7018d2a3ee061e1bab4ad19cdb7#p91442)

After Mini-ArnFest I with Ray Muno and Eric Tuck last week in the valley of the Jolly Green Giant (which, by the way is actually Eric's Northfield band saw, not some large smiling vegetable guy;-) ), we had round II in OH with Mike Burian, Mike Floyd, Chris (Smitty) Smith, and me--JB Lenzi Missy Porter Potter (tm D. Lehman), aka Joe Potter. Nine-plus hours of all-things-arn this past Friday. Lots of swapping of arn between trucks and trailers (I've promised not to post the incriminating photographs of the creative moving process). The arn handling included everything from two old Fay & Egan mortisers to the world's smallest Delta radial arm saw, and lots of things larger and smaller....uh, well, not smaller than the Mini-me RAS unless you count Mike Floyd's cool Rockwell-Delta cast-arn ash tray.

Some of the machines we exchanged travelled 3083 miles to this point, and have what I'd guess to be at least another grand to follow--possibly making this one of the longest Ruckers of individual pieces, except maybe things for Chuck Hess or Andy Reynolds or which come across the Pond (does Rucker by ship count for extra points? ;-) )

4083 miles

Now gross weight is not the record i am claiming for Vann and I just distance. the straight line distance from Ottawa Canada to Wellington NZ is about 8,995 miles but the package from Vann went all over Australia before it came back so 10,252 miles . Half way around the world is 12,450 What did Vann send off ? A Wadkin hand wheel and a Bursgreen cast iron switch plate. not worth the post but they have a great place in the Temple. I would like to say no cash change hands on purpose:D. very Kool Vann

As "Rucker" is not a term used Down Under, maybe I'd better explain. It's term used to describe moving of old iron or parts, from one place to another, via other old iron enthusiasts.

When I first heard the expression I thought it might be a corruption of the word trucker; or maybe it implied carrying something on your back - as in a ruck-sack. But no, it's named after Keith Rucker, a citizen of the USA (and owner of the classic VintageMachinery.org website) who must have been the first to document such a machinery transfer (or maybe he was the first repeat offender).

I would like to say no cash change hands...Well... Jack's not quite telling the truth here.

Apparently...:B:B ...when Jack opened the parcel... :B:B four $NZ20 notes and my EFTPOS card fell out :o. Looks like I had them in the bag and forgot to take them out when I handed it over to Brian @ Muir. That explains where my EFTPOS card got to :doh:.

Anyway Jack, thanks for your honesty (he hasn't given my cash back yet :;) and I hope you're happy with the parts. I wear your Rust Junkie tee shirts proudly.

390086 Canadian saw and Canadian tee-shirt.

Cheers, Vann.

The Olympics are on at the moment. I think you guys just won the Ruckers Team Event Gold Medal.If it was a combined Kiwi/Aussie effort, we could receive our medals under either flag (as nobody but Kiwis and Aussies can tell the difference). But I'm not sure what sort of flag we'd need for a combined Kiwi/Kanuk effort? Union Jack in top corner, maple leaf to right? Or red white and red with Southern Cross in middle of white panel.

Can I trade my gold medal for another Wadkin? :;

Cheers, Vann.
