Made a 500mm dia bowl for a baby photo shoot and made a vacuum chuck to finish the bottom. It was made out of 150mm dia upvc pipe off cut glued to a pine base and a small face plate. As you can see it worked out well. I don't know why the end photos are rotated!

Nice work. Does that rubber have a name? This is one of those jobs I've been 'gunado' and the rubber gasket was always a bit elusive.

It's just a rubber edging seal I bought from a local foam and rubber shop. There must be one near you or maybe a Clark Rubber shop. Any closed foam will do or knock off someone's foam mouse pad. It doesn't have to be stuck on just cut your foam to shape and hold it in place till you turn the vacuum pump on. In the photo showing the front of the chuck, on top of the head stock there is a foam ring gasket I cut out of a mouse pad.

Thanks, I'll have a look next time I'm in town.
