Here is a pic of my first Bud vase, Naked and Dressed..... Not bad considering. I am pleased but not exactly over the moon, the shaping needs a bit of work. I have also added a pic of what the timber looked like before hand. It was a salvaged fence post from the 60's/70's, maybe earlier or later, not too sure. house circa 1944. Interesting front page came out whilst it was being renovated, May 28th, 1944, of course you could imagine what the headlines were about at the time.
I believe the timber is Queensland Red gum, Hard, dense, split and heavy as all b--gery. Am i on the right track with this timber? If not any help would be great, as I have more.

Critique please.

PS, No second guessing as to reason why it was made ie. Tuesday 14th (Today for all you romantics who forgot).

Nice shape and finish on that vase. Surprising what can come out of a daggy bit of old hardwood from an old fence or building demolition.

That is a lovely shape for a bud vase. Doesn't really matter what wood you use as long as you make it.

That is beautiful, just as it is.

A variation you might try is taking a smaller diameter, leaving the base as weathered post and then having a smooth turned upper part, drilled on the order of the bud vase. See below:

Paul, that didn't even cross my mind, and now that you mention it I should've kept one straight out o the ground. But alas, I have trimmed them all back to clean. i'll remember that next time, thanks for the tip.
