This new project is a commission from someone who saw a computer animation some time ago on the internet and liked it enough to want to see it come to life. I have a basic problem with copying something, so agreed to do it provided that only the concept remains, not the details of the original. So as not give the joke away, this post will avoid giving to many clues which might be accurately guessed by sharp eyed members, (eg Peter the Crowie) ....
Attached are four images which show the commencement of this automaton.

406361

The shell is made from two light fittings, cut and glued to form a large enough space

406362

Rear of the shell

406363

The frame will be filled with casting resin to give strength to the structure,

406364

and the back panel which will support mechanisms completes the initial work.
Apologies for the secrecy,

Gus

There are three characters in the story. carved from radiata pine, not a good medium, (needed strength for legs and arms which have movable joints).

406887

The movements will be operated by small gears,

406893

Which will be controlled by the main input gears, and other functions by a cam.

406894

Mechanicals to control other functions, assembly of the characters will be next.
Thanks for looking,

Gus

Body parts have been painted, ready for assembly and installation into their place.

407110

The mechanics to move the various bits are installed in the the prototype frame,

Prior to painting, the rough carved characters were trial fitted to test the range of movement,

Hi Gus,

Sorry I missed the start of the thread last week.

It's looking to be up to your high standard of work again (as per usual). Look forward to your next post mate

I think you've got it the wrong way round Crowie. 3 men operating a mechanical Nessie is my guess.

A short video of the workings behind.

The completion of the scene follows, I expect that in a couple of days it will be finished.

Thanks for looking,

Thank you Gus, While the mechanics are impressive, they are absolutely no help in guessing the scene you are making. Cheers, Peter

125 hours, project completed. A third of that was the carving of the three figures, the rest, a fairly simple mechanism. Attached is a not too flash video. A slightly longer version can be seen here: https://youtu.be/WAbWe_ZMyBM
I hope it might amuse, and thank all who followed the build, and commented.
I still have hopes that some may jump in and have a go at making these unusual objects. A warning though, it becomes an addiction.....

Gus

Thanks very much Keith !
I agree with you re the video length. The problem with large videos is the file size restricted to 7mb on the forum, so only so much can be fitted in while still showing an overview. That, and the fact that my video and editing capabilities are severely limited.
I appreciate your support,
Regards,
Gus
