My third attempt at a bowl ever, not sure what the timber is, found it on the side of the road. Love the texture and colour though. I have more that I slab cut too.

Cal its a good start next time probably go a little deeper to reduce the wall thickness and it lose much of the heavy look.Dont be too hard on your self these sorts of things take time to get on top of :U

Thanks for the tip [emoji106]I didn't want to go too thin with this one as I was unsure of how stable the burly part was. It's a whole new world turning wood. [emoji1]

Cal,

Nice figure, nice smooth surface. Does it have a finish on it? If not, the finish should make the figure really jump out.

Thanks Paul, I just waxed it. Was in a rush, didn't put much thought into it as we had a function to go to that arvo. Should have just left it on the lathe and gone back to it today. I was happy with the tool work on it, spent little time sanding to end up with the finish. Light passes with the gouge then 120/280/400/800 paper then quick rub with the wax. Need to get some burnishing oil for next time.

Found another bowl that I started green. It is black locust, was a bit out of shape after it dried so I remounted it and trued it up. Have some danish oil so I coated it in that. Will leave it dry and sand and recoat.
