Hi folks, at last year's Sharpening GT, an idea was floated to hold another GT but on joinery systems and there seems to be enough interest to go ahead.
So, here is the idea..
Joinery systems get together
fletty's shed
Camden, NSW
10am, Sunday, 18th June, 2017
Systems to be demonstrated and tried, already include;
Leigh dovetail (D4)
Gifkin dovetail
Domino
Hegner finger jointer
lock mitre (using Infinity set up gauges)
Trend mortise and tenon
In addition, the following have been offered, but to be confirmed
Incra positioner
and, I'm hoping for offers of;
Incra iBox?
Kreg Foreman (?)
Mid June will be cold in Camden but an open, outdoor fire is planned and there are heaters in the shed. There will be the usual freebie sausage sandwiches available and BBQ space if you want to cook something yourself.
Depending on weather, there is off-street parking and/or camping/ caravan, power is available.
Please advise if you are interested in attending even if you can only confirm closer to the date AND please advise if you would like to attend but can't because I have chosen a date that clashes with something that WE should all be interested in (as with last year when I chose a date that clashed with the Kyneton (Vic) Lost Trades Fair!).

Hello Alan,
Put me down for the GTG too, please.
I have an Ozzie jig (dowelling system), which I bought at a WWWS nearly 20 years ago. It was never quite right, though reasonably useful for a beginner. Of course, it has not left the box since I acquired the Domino (thank you once again Brett for all the effort you put into that GB!).
Cheers,

The logistics of the day look like;

then Gifkin using router table while Hegner fitted to workbench
Hegner finger joint demo
IBox on sawtable while router table set up for Incra positioner?
Sausage sandwiches, outdoor fire and outrageous yarns about woodworking and life while Leigh jig set up on workbench

Fletty , I'll send a PM with my details .
PS just tried to send PM , system is saying your Inbox may be full.
But Incra positioner with router, router table , bits and dimensioned timber is no problem.
It may be interesting for anyone who hasn't used the Incra to do the demo, with me in the wings
providing the step by step instructions . I know when I was comtemplating the Incra for many years,it just
looked too complicated and finicky . But its actually quite straightforward and anyone can master it as the demo will show.
Chris Parks expressed an interest in the Dowelmax , which is also available if you wish, and quick to master so will take up very little time.
Its a deceptively simple tool . I don't use the domino hardly at all because of dowelmax.

I recon that your 100 cats would struggle just to deal with the mouse birth rate. As a first estimate, 10,000 mice can produce around 50,000 little mice every 20 days, or roughly 2,500 per day.
At 10 mice per cat per day, your 100 cats would only be knocking over 1000 mice per day.

The Jointing System Get Together (JSGTG) is evolving nicely and there is still plenty of time and space for more people to come along. Basically, it is a group of mostly members of this forum meeting together to see, compare and potentially use the different jointing systems currently available on the Australian market. There is no sales push nor pressure as we are all users not sellers but this is a chance for you to see and try before you buy?
Date: starts 10am, Sunday 18th June, 2017
Location: fletty's shed, Camden, NSW (about 50km SW of Sydney CBD, details will be in the PM)
Facilities: shed, toilet, off street parking (if dry!), barbecue, fire pit, covered areas
Provided: sausage sandwiches
Confirmed Jointing systems to be demonstrated:
Domino

Gifkin dovetail jig
Leigh D24R dovetail jig
iBox finger jointer
Hegner finger jointer
Incra positioner, finger, dovetail and other joints ( thanks to econ)
dowelmax dowel joints ( also thanks to econ)

Other: everyone is welcome to bring along surplus tools and timber etc to sell on the day, completed or WIP works to show off and anything else that you might want to eat, drink and/or cook on the barbecue.

I'll bring the bobbin for giggles. Andy's been working on a wheel for a friend but it's at a fragile stage and probably can't do the trip.
Hey, is 'Long Draw' a joining method? ;)

Nah but 'knit 1, purl 1' would be right up there with Sawdust Maker's suggestion of "hammer and nails"?

I'm joking (it snowed here again today) -- but maybe Fletty needs something similar for his ski slope

It's funny you should say that. We have had A LOT of rain and the back paddock and driveway are very soft and boggy. This could make next Sunday's gtg a bit difficult! When going through my options of WHAT will harden the ground, freezing it was briefly considered before being discarded as impractical? However..... you may have put it back on the table?

Hi Crowie, I'm in contact with Ray every few days via SMS. He's in good nick except for his usual dropping of sharp things onto himself but Sue has a bad dose of the dreaded lurgy! His bench is nearly finished and looking good but, how he does it given his lack of mobility, still amazes me? They won't be down for the gtg. They had hoped that it would line up with some other family functions but that's not happening now.
He has some timber stored at my place as "turning blanks" which I was supposed to sell at the last gtg :doh:but will definitely be sold/donated at this one. Pat will make sure of this as "what don't get turned, will be burned"!

Contrary to what Fletty wrote above (and edited out) Wheelinround is not banned from the forums. He did receive a 1 week ban which ended 13th May for an altercation with a Moderator.
Maybe someone might like to contact him and see what the real reason is for his unusually long absence.
But no matter what don't come back and say he is banned as he definitely isn't. He may just be upset and not wanting to play any more.
If for some reason he can't get on to the forums please let me know and I'll do what I can, when I can, to sort out his problems..... (with connection, nothing else).
Cheers - Neil :U
