Welcome back viewers.

Woodborer held a BBQ for one of our Nothern cousins today.
The weather was magnificent, as one would expect of Melbourne in spring time.
The BBQ was most good, as Robs and Megs always are.

Turn out was good, with free wood to those that attended.
There was also a pre showing of one of Sturdees latest jigs.

What a desperate looking lot.:D

Owwhh yeah, Cliff, you need to head back into the tropics mate, you aged sooo much when you came down here. :D

Yeap, thanks guys.... I've scored some timber to take home too.

I'm going to have to carve & polish that burl you gave me Rob 'cos it's too good to waste turning it.

The Lion King was VERY good, recomend it to anyone.

Wood Borer
12th September 2005, 09:10 AM
Glad you all enjoyed the day.

It's a pity the sun was so bright all day, I hope it wasn't too hot for Cliff.

Cliff, the burl could be used amongst other things as a piece if sculpture.

I'll see if I took a photo Zed and Grunt - the two that give each other reddies

G'day Wood Borer,

Looks like it was a great arvo. :D

In the morning I worked in the workshop assembling a jig :D and then went to WB BBQ.

It was great to meet Cliff and spent time with good mates and even meet some more BB members. The food was well cooked by our host, thanks Rob and Meg for your hospitality, and yes I showed one of my jigs. :D

On leaving ( unfortunately a bit early ) I was joined by my wife, who had been dropped of by my daughter to save time, and we went out for dinner and dancing. They looked a tad strange at me when I walked in wearing jeans and sneakers but after a quick change no problems.

So I made a jig, talked about a jig and then danced a jig - a wonderful day indeed for a jig builder. :D :D :D

And thanks to Rob and Meg for a wonderful afternoon, Cliff for envying our wonderful weather, Sturdee for getting a grip of things ( :D ), Julie for keeping under control, Al for supplying a monkey etc, Grunt for co-operating, Auld Bassoon for his dry wit, Gumby for tolerating us all, Eastie for making sure the BBQ was safe  and Rob Gell for providing magnificent weather.
Who did I miss?????

Gumby
12th September 2005, 09:55 PM
I got me some nice blackwood and huon (thanks Al) plus some lovely orange silky thanks to Cliff. He must have looked funny carting it all on the tram from the city :D :D and it cost him $40 in excess baggage on the plane - they just have no respect for wood !

After the whole day and a tour of the Woodboreum where some georgeous looking planes live (did you count them Rob ? :D ), one big question remained unanswered:

Where did Grunt hide his sausage ? :D :D

The pleasure is always ours having good people around for a visit, a BBQ, a drink or a chat and joke especially if the topic is woodwork.

We accomplished them all on Sunday thanks to our visitors.

BTW, Cliff tried some of Journeyman Mick's limecello whilst he was in Melbourne, I think you will have a visitor soon Mick after some more.

Here's some more photos.

Thank you Meg and Rob for putting up with this scurrilous lot.

Cliff, hope you had a good day today.

Yeah thanks guys.... I turned up with 2 cartons of wood & a bottle of plonk, I drank the whole bottle trying to keep warm & then started on Rob's little bottle of rocket fuel he got from Mick & went home with more wood. (thanks Al & Rob) & forgot to get my book on timber trees that Rob gave me.

Yeah , thanks for the 14 cups of coffee & the guided tour of your corner of the world (& SE Melb) & the chance to brush up on a few short cuts in spindle turning... I came home to a frown for staying too long  so I suggested a walk while the sun was out, we got almost 3 blocks before it rained.:D

I had a very good weekend inspite of the weather.... it was 8°C on the way to the airport this morning, it was 11°C when we got to Sydney & 29°C when we landed in Cairns at 11:30.... we were still dressed for 8°.
It is currently 26°C here in my office & I have the AC & a fan going.:D

ozwinner

I think the tropics agree with you. :D

Nice to have met up with ya cliff.

 I don't see why you're fussed; we get that sort of daily temperature range down here all the time, w/out having to leave the state! Must've been milder than usual while you were here. :D

Sorry to have missed you, BTW. I was invited but family got in the way, dagnabbit. SWMBO keeps telling me there's sure to be a next time and I've no reason to sulk... Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll just slink off to my corner...
