I needed a break from the wall unit I'm making and the Tibouchina bowls I green turned some time ago were dry enough ;) . I also turned a Tasy Blackwood bowl and some pens out of the Tibouchina.

The Tibouchina was cut down  by my neighbour , but better to use it than waist it ;). I got quite a bit more drying out :). I've attached a photo of a similar tree for those of you that may not know what a Tibouchina Noleen looks like.

Cheers

I've recently come to realise that there are alll sorts of timbers that grow in the home garden that are worth turning.
I'v just laid down some camelia and some sort of oramental pine for later.

Is it that youhad too many wood tuners that you have that many deserts? :D

I must confess that I never look at a tree without wondering if it would be nice to turn it.:o

Nice work Neil! the grain in the bowls and pen is really interesting.

I really like the blue accent too.

Nice work Neil. There are a few Tibouchina's in my neighbourhood. (mmm chainsaw, midnight mmmm)

I have got far too many silky oak logs if you want some for turning.

cheers,

Hey dai sensei!!!

That Tibouchina has a nice warm colour to it.
Neil, what did you colour the inlay with? I assume that it is 2 part epoxy!

They are "lollie/peanut bowls" for my 2 sisters and 1 sister-in-law for Xmas presents. Mind you, if you saw me you'd think I'd had too many deserts :D :D

Thanks for the offer Conwood, but I already have 3 logs of silky drying out in my carport.

I use Diggers clear casting resin (from Bunnings) and mix it with colouring from -
