Triton Router

Comments from a new user:

Hand-held mode good points: http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/smile.gif
1. Very easy to change and set depth with both the macro and micro adjustments.
2. Very easy to change cutter with the extending, auto lock chuck and single spanner.
3. Good dust extraction.
4. Wide base-plate throat (80mm) to accommodate larger cutters.
5. Powerful motor (2400W) with variable speed, soft start and safety switch.
6. Extending base plate, circle cutter, fence and straight bit included.

Hand-held mode not so good points:
1. The plunge-limit setting scale is short and slow to adjust.
2. No template-guide attachment mechanism. Guides from other manufacturers can be fitted.
3. Heavy to handle and feels slightly top heavy when the base plate is extended to its limit. (Unlikely to be a problem with normal cutters.)

Table-mounted mode good points: http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/smile.gif
Good points 1 to 5 above apply, plus:
1. In the cutter-changing position, the chuck actually extends above the table top.
2. Easy to remove plunge spring. (and easy to replace.)
3. Dust extraction can be applied both above and below the table.

Table-mounted mode not so good points:
1. The speed control knob is upside-down so the numbers are not easily visible. (They need to be printed on the side of the knob.)
2. The built-in safety switch is redundant if the table has its own switch. A minor nuisance having to also use the router switch every time the cutter is changed.

Summary: Superb router for table use. Equal to the best of the rest for portable use.
