Old ~8'x4' table leg extensions

I was asked to make some leg extensions for an old dining table that's old castors fell off due to rotten leg ends. Although the legs were made from some sort of cedar, the main frame and table were from some sort of hardwood (took 2 people to lift one end).

In discussions with client we decided on a square base with a single bead and tapered recess to fit the base of the existing legs. I bought old hardwood plank 150x75 to make the extensions from. I dressed one side and glued 2 pieces together before dressing them to ~140x140 and then cut them into the 155 long blanks for turning.

Turning the blanks posed the normal issues but being ~100 year old red ironbark (aka concrete) they were a pain to turn whilst keeping the chisels sharp. Each sanded to just 150grit ready for the client to oil/finish them at the same time as the table when he has sanded it all back.

And yes, I did pay the blood tax on those sharp corners :cry4:, a few times :-:doh:

Installed them today, all good and client happy, he just needs to lacquer/oil them now (after cleaning up the old table).
