I am looking for a cheap router to use in my table. I was looking at the M3600G and making some sort of lift for it. Has anyone had any experience with these routers?

I have a Bosch 1600 GOF so I don't want to fork out huge $$$s for a second router to sit in table.

I'm a Makita man, but have no experience with the M3600G. I have an RP2301FC in the table and am very happy with it - big difference in price though. The RP2301FC has a greater plunge capacity, 70mm compared to 60mm, but if you're considering putting it in a lift that probably doesn't matter much. Variable speed is a very worthwhile feature on a table mounted router although is possibly not necessary depending on what work you want to do.

If you're going to the expense of a lift (I've never seen a cheap one) maybe you'd be better off with a more expensive router that has the option of height adjustment above the table. The RP2301FC has that feature.

Aldav, how much adjustment can you get with the screw that’s accessed above the table?

On another note, I saw some cheap router lifts (operated like a scissor jack) on Aliexpress I think. I’ll amend this post with a link when I find it.

Edit.

The lifts were on Alibaba but here’s a similar one on Aliexpress

No problems getting the full 70mm Lappa. Yes those scissor lifts are also available on Ebay. They weren't selling very well UNTIL a member here, tccp123, gave them a rap in a video he made. All the sellers should be giving him a commission! See this thread - http://www.woodworkforums.com/f20/cheap-effective-router-table-lift-video-206380?highlight=router+lift

Cheers,
David

I was hoping to avoid that sort of price. It cuts into my "Dane needs a bandsaw" fund. I might grab the M3600G and have a play anyway.

For the lift, I was looking at either a car scissor jack or making up something. I might look at that lifting platform.

I envy our US counterparts with their removable spindles. So much easier to DIY a lift for.

I did a very cheap conversion on a GMC router, that should work on any plunge router.
