This was completed last week.http://users.vianet.ca/~rhelman/Intarsia/horse05.jpg

The pattern is categorized as a "beginner's" project by the designers. J.G. Roberts.

Cherry: for neck/head, Western Red cedar:mane, Black Walnut: nostril & inner ears and Ebony: eye, Basswood: forehead.

Material used was 3/4 inch thickness,20mm. I shimmed and raised the left forelock about a cm and the mane about 5mm while tapering the neck down to increase the depth.
Raised the eyeball and rounded it. And gave a convex shape to the nostril. And the inner ears.
And lowered the far ear by about 10mm.

All shaping, contouring and rough sanding done with rigid drum sanders on a flex shaft, with finer work using flap sanders on the shaft.

Always enjoy seeing what project you have completed. Do you get your wood from a local supplier or is it order from somewhere else? If so where?

Do you have any other pics? Always good to get ideas etc. and as I indicated before I would like to incoorporate certain designs or even ideas into furniture pieces.

Have a good one...

hey Yaki.

I am always looking for unusual wood grains wherever I go. Home Depot is not a bad source for WRC and the greenish Poplar.
The Toronto and Woodstock wood shows are great sources for he unusual.and I expect the Ottawa show in November might as well, but my main supplier is LaCasse in Sudbury.
I thought I had posted their web site but if not here it is http://www.thewoodbox.com/exoticwoods/woododdsandends.htm.
They will fill mail orders. I normally make a trip to Sudbury once a month so I don't know what the cost would be.
As far as posting some of/all my other projects, I think that would be a bit much. No point in monopolizing the forum with a bunch of random photos. No matter the boost to my ego. I am trying to promote the art of Intarsia to those who would try their hand at it.
If anyone had a specific request and I had done a design to match I would post it.

Once again Bob your continues to impress and inspire me.

Still haven't started the tiger.
