Winding masons line around and around until you have about 1/2 inch thick might do it if you are not taking too deep a cut. Tie a square knot in the ends over a pulley. Turn around by hand a bunch so that the strands even out.
Good luck to you.

Something like this (https://www.google.com.au/search?q=adjustable+link+v+belt&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjS04Tx3-jbAhUF8LwKHaTtDaMQsAQIqAE) will get you going again without having to pull the headstock shaft.
Not a cheap option, but a quick solution.
Carbartec (https://www.carbatec.com.au/machinery-and-accessories/machinery-accessories/rockler-adjustable-link-belt-vibration-reduction) has an expensive offering.
There are cheaper sources (eg here (http://www.woodworksupplies.com.au/fenner-link-belte-1220mm-48-inch-of-127mm-1a2-link-machine-belting)), but may not be open over the weekend.

A knowledgeable turner has pointed out to me (thanks, you know who you are) that the Woodfast 280 uses a specialised posi-drive belt. Those have to be made to size, so the best source for that will probably be Woodfast themselves or one of their resellers.
I think this is where you go for Woodfast now: Woodworking Solutions | Quality Woodworking Machinery | Tools and Accessories (http://www.woodworkingsolutions.com.au/home)
