hello
Are there any pen turners out there that have any experience finishing
the black ancient redgum to get that deep black gloss shine.
i'm thinking sanding up into the two, three thousand grit or higher. then use shella wax.
thank you

If I was trying to get a deep glossy shine I would be using a CA finish. Once it is there it will always be shiny.

Just discovered this older post re this wood. I'm not a turner so cant advise from personal experience as a pen maker.

But I do occassionally offer such woods to penturners. In return sometimes, as I as I did just just yesterday, I'm sent beautiful pen. One was ancient red gum pen which (under good light) shows the very dark, almost black wood with traces of brown and figure under a very glossy finish which I assume (from Gabby the penmaker ) is a CA finish which I believe holds its finish well.
