View Full Version : Brilliant new drill geometry for low powered lathes

Came across this large tipped drill with a really interesting cutting geometry. Works like a charm on my bigger lathe. So I decided to try it on my friend Peter's Myford - as an example of a good quality lower power lathe. It went really great. Drilled a pilot hole to clear the web of this big drill and experimented with different speeds and feeds in back-gear.
It wasn't powerful enough to make the chip breakers work at the speed we finally got good results with, but it really removed some metal.
Here is the result using my 2" diameter drill bit:
