Scroll chuck

Hello I decided to clean this chuck up a bit.
Now I cant get the scroll to click in with the jaws in alignment.

The individual jaws are numbered 1 through to 4; look at the top of each for its number.

Somewhere on the chuck, either on the top or on the side, you will see a set of numbers numbered 1 through to 4, match each numbered jaw piece with the corresponding matching number on the chuck.

I think you will find that is your problem.

By the way, you will shortly need to replace a couple of those Allen keyed bolts.

Thanks mick . That's not the problem I have even reversed the order to see if that was the problem no it still wont lock in with the scroll in alignment.

Looking at the picture, I'm gonna take a guess that jaw slide 2 &4 are not set into the scroll properly. It's not the jaws that are in the wrong place. It's the slides. What I relate below is my experience on a metal working chuck.

The slides must go into the chuck body in sequence with the scroll. Insert the number 1 slide into it's correct slot if a slot is numbered. Turn the key until the slide engages the scroll. Advance the the scroll until you see it appearing in slot #2. Back off a bit, and insert jaw slide #2. Advance the scroll until you see it appear in slot #3. Set the slide in the slot, and advance for #4. When they are in sequence, you should have everything come together at the center with a small square. Back off until you have the slides the same diameter as the center hole on the chuck, and then install the jaws in the numbered sequence.

Within the last year, I replaced a slide on a Nova G3 chuck and my mind is a complete blank on what I did...... I know I changed it because I kept the slide in case I screw up the same one again.

Turn the chuck over, and look at the positioning of the slides from the spindle hole with the jaws fully closed. What I see on my SN2 chucks is that slide#1 has a a large flat exposed. #2 has a smaller flat and is just starting to show the inboard edge of the scroll groove. #3 shows a smaller flat and a fully exposed groove. #4 shows the full groove plus the flat on each side of the groove. Ok the update is I have the I bought the new pinion for wor perfectly except without the new pinion in place
Maybe I should have bought two new one's


Maybe I should have left it alone it still worked

Could it be that the new pinion has no wear at all and I need to put it in anyway.(I dont think so?

Now I have a hole in the side where the new pinion should be but the chuck scrolls beautifully. Mabe sick some duct take over the hole.
