Hi Folks,

Dusted off the Stihl 090 and gave her a workout on a Lychee log that I acquired from my neighbour.
Found the timber to be quite dense but has some beautiful grain and colours when freshly cut.

Cheers,
Nev

If you think it's dense now, wait until it dries out. I had a heap of it but ended up using it for the camp oven, it was just too hard to turn.

That's been my experience as well. It can be pretty but is one wood that I would advise turning green and let it do its thing while drying. Not sure how one would have the patience to sand a fully dry slab table made from Lychee.

Yes, I heard also that a woodturning demonstrator had trouble turning this timber. Was thinking more of using it in furniture of some kind.
Looks like I got my work cut out for me.....
