Try http://www.thewoodsmith.com.au (http://www.thewoodsmith.com.au/) which is in Croydon, VIC.

He had some 7"-10" rounds the last time I was there, although I don't recall whether 'twas tiger or not and it was quite a while ago. A phone call would soon clear it up.

What ptc said; no website but number should be in Yellow PP.

Last time I was in Woodsmith - c. 3 weeks ago - didn't see any.

Search on Tasman's posts too under Timber.

If you have no joys elsewhere, I recently won some Tiger Myrtle logs from Forestry Tas in a tender and will be cutting them up within the next couple of weeks. Will not know how good the tiger stripes are until then.

What sizes were you after in turning blanks?

To ptc, skewchiDAMN, rsser, AuldBassoon, reeves and kevM. Thank you all verry much for your replys on tiger myrtle. I have been to the woodsmith recently and len told me that he could not find it anywhere even from cockatoo timbers but thank you anyway.

To kevM I am looking for anything from 40mm to 400mm thick and 100mm to 600mm in diameter round or squar. And 4 x 100 x 100 mm by 1 meter long and 4 x 50 x 50 mm by 1 meter long. The 1 meter long pieces are for turning baseball bats (for display) and walking sticks.
Here is my e-mail address if you would like to reply to me to let me know if you can do this and give me some prices. [email protected]
Thank you Cam5.

Gents,
Price will be dependent on the quality of the "tiger" will not know until we cut open the logs. Good quality (turning blanks) will be around $5.00 kg as we have paid a premium to obtain these logs and then freight down south from the north west coast. Have not yet set a price for sawn sizes.

Will post photos and details when logs are cut.

Have now cut up most of our logs into boards with some being kept for cutting into turning blanks. Somewhat disappointed though, more than 75% of the logs had had been attacked a some stage earlier by pin hole borer and the myrtle colouring was extremely pale.

Photos show some of the "tiger" feature together with the "unwanted pin hole" feature.

I bought an excellent piece of Tiger Myrtle from Forest Salvage at the Hobart woodwork show. Its in a dark cupboard where it'll stay for about 12 months when I'll re-saw it into small boards around 4mm thick for box lid features.
The grain is unbelievable.
