Amazing Olive

Made these for a recent competition.
Both Olive, both with Australian Ebony finials.
I know that young Olive doesn't have the brilliant grain of the older timber.
What causes the difference with these colours ?
Anyy ideas ??

Don't know, other than to say that some woods darken with age, particularly after they have seasoned for a long time. eg, red gum gets much darker. Maybe it is something to do with oxidisation.

Col, my uneducated guess is the ground it grows in has something in it that causes the color difference. It could also be the type of Olive... That's all I got except the bowls are very good looking pieces. Thanks for post them........... Jerry (in Tucson)USA
