A while ago I wanted an assembly/clamping table and started with a Kreg table (see in the background) and even drilled some dog holes to make it more versatile. After seeing many videos on modern workbenches including Festool's MFT I decided I wanted an array of dog holes which suited the work that I do, so I made a bench top with not only dog holes but T-track as well and absolutely loved it. I used it for sanding/gluing/assembly/clamping/staining/routing. I then came across Dave Stanton's multi function bench and it was love at first sight. I then decided to copy it and/or buy the plans but a few subtle hints to my wife and a birthday coming up led to the whole thing arriving last Thursday.It is a Festool style top with 20mm dog holes 96mm apart with 2 T-Tracks. The black sections are the same cushion strips used under Festool's guide rails and are extremely grippy. I can rout around a board without clamping.
I now think that the 21st century modern workbench should contain dog holes and/or T-tracks using the large amount of accessories including clamps, fences, stops, dogs from companies like Kreg, Bessey and Armor Tool. You can still use a vice including a home made moxon vice. If you search on youtube for workbenches you'll find many that include dog holes and/or T-Track
The accuracy and tolerances are phenomenal as you would expect from a CNC made product. I use it for everything and love it. I've added some edge T-Track on 2 sides to add some more versatility.
