Bernmc 12th June 2019, 08:37 PM Has anyone found a Fusion 360 equivalent of the excellent Sketchup for Woodworkers (http://sketchupforwoodworkers.com/)?
After banging my head with F360, I tried sketchup and got up and running pretty quickly after watching the tutorials above. However, it's too limited for my needs - sudden W T F when I wanted to do the seemingly simple change from 18mm ply to 16mm MDF for a cabinet as an example - and I need to generate things to 3D print. So parametric modelling and generating gcode are important.
I'm much better at learning through the 'let's design a bookcase' type tutorials, as opposed to 'this is the sketch menu... the tools do this...' etc.

bruceward51 14th June 2019, 09:36 AM Second that recommendation. After using Sketchup for years, their move to the online version removed a lot of the useful tools so I took the plunge into F360. I am finding it FAR superior in both functionality and stability - although it is a steep learning curve at first.
Lars channel is great and. Particularly like the way he leaves his stuff-ups in place. He also often talks through alternatives which really helped me understand more about the power behind the scenes.

damian 14th June 2019, 10:44 AM I have not used sketchup. I used to work as a design draftsman on 3d modeling. Fusion is an ok package and given they are making it free for non professional users it is a good option. Their website has a series of tutorials with both video and written instructions, and the forum is very useful. Yes it has bugs, yes some workflows are frustrating, yes you will have to learn new things regardless of where you are coming from, but as a long time hater of autodesk products I'd say this is the best thing they have ever built.
RossM 14th June 2019, 01:21 PM I can also recommend Lars - his YouTube channel is a great resource, and beyound his beginner series, his couple of woodwork oriented videos are great. There are also a few other video tutorials that are worthwhile (I recommend that you watch as many as possible!)

One important thing to bear in mind when watching these tutorials - the AutoDesk Fusion team is VERY active in developing this software. This means that the User Interface has been changing regularly, and thus what you will see in menus may not be the same as you see in the videos. Generally, the changes are good as they improve the logical workflow & simplify the software, but it can be initially a bit confusing when learning from online videos.
