Just interested to know......why do turners prefer 2 piece pens over one piece and the other way around!!!???

I received two emails last night, below is a partial copy of the emails
Congratulations to you all
Email1
Bruce and Jan-Maree,
I have been deployed on combat
operations collectively for close to two years of my military career. On
each of my deployments there has been small gestures performed from people
back home that have made me thankful and proud to be doing what we are asked
to do. None more so however, than the time taken by both of you and your
teams. Today I received in the one shipment some Australian biscuits, some
laundry bags, ANZAC cookies and the Pens. I will give out the pens to our
Aussies serving here and the extra six to our US colleagues who as you are
aware have suffered a number of losses recently. I will pick three very
lucky and special Americans to give the laundry bags to and just know that
they will be absolutely thrilled and honored. The ANZAC cookies have
already been shared with our US friends who love them.
Your handwritten messages mean as much and are proof to me that there are
Aussies out there who do get what our young men and women are doing over
here and for them those messages are so important. I have come to realise
in the past few years that there are some truly great Aussies out there
looking out for the welfare of our service men and women. The health,
welfare and well being of our current serving members and veterans is so
important and I am very much humbled by the community efforts that I have
seen as the president of a sub branch and from being the recipient of
multiple care packages since being deployed in January. I will come home
invigorated to ensure that my Avalon Sub Branch maintains its focus on
nurturing the living, healing the wounded and honoring the dead.
On behalf of us all in this part of the world I thank you for your gifts and
most importantly your spirit of community and concern that most definitely
makes the world of difference to us.

Hello Bruce,
By way of intro, I'm an Australian Army officer currently serving in Kabul, Afghanistan with the NATO Special Operations Command. I'm also the recipient of one of the 25 pens you recently dispatched to us. I'd just like to express my thanks at your gesture and let you know It is very much appreciated. Could I also ask you to pass on a personal thanks to Mik Lawrence, the creator of the pen I received, and please let him know I think it's a cracking gift!!
Once again, thank you for your gesture and please pass on my thanks to all involved in crafting the pens you send across.
Kindest regards, Mick
PS: The irony of thanking you by way of email as opposed to a written letter isn't lost on me - so I'll apologize for that! Haha.

Dear Bruce,
Just a quick note to say thank you for the wonderful pens that you forwarded to me for distribution to my team who are all equally grateful.
The workmanship of all of the pens is exceptional and I particularly liked the pens that you made yourself. I am pleased that the team left one of yours for me once they had chosen their own.
Regards

Hello there,
I recently received a box of pens from Bruce Sanders in Rutherford with a note to distribute them to the detachment here.
You'll be happy to know that during a promotion ceremony for one of the lads from LAC to CPL I had all the crew together to talk to them and distribute the pens [some even on their day off hence the different clothing in the pic].
I'm happy to say the women and men of JTF 633.1.2 really liked the pens and are super appreciative of them. I saw them put to good use immediately. No need to thank us for our service, but thanks all the same!
Please see the attached photo of the group with their pens and please inform the folks who did the good work on them we admire the craftsmanship, the time put into making them and getting them here. Best of all the thought to do it in the first place is really appreciated.

Bruce,
Today I received a pen from you !
First of all thank you very much what a great gift! It is amazing thee effort and commitment that you have put in to gift such an amazing gift. Small in size unique in so many ways and amazing craftsmanship !
It will take pride of place on my desk and will be in use every day! I will just need to put a bell 🛎 on it so it does not “find “ another home!
With much appreciation
Good Afternoon Bruce
I just wanted to extend my thanks for a beautiful pen I received today from the Pens for Troops box.
I am currently deployed as a Defence Civilian ( former Soldier) and was surprised to receive the pen today, All of the pens were beautiful and of such high quality, I didn’t know which one to choose.
Many thanks once again, and especially a huge thank you for thinking of our deployed troops.
Kind Regards,
G'day Bruce,
I'm a WO1 currently deployed overseas. I'm a RAEME Fitter & Turner by trade and can recognise a well crafted pen when I see one.
What a lovely surprise it was this afternoon when a young MAJ walked around offering us one of these beautifully made pens.
Please thank the clever machinist that produced my new prized possession.
I will use it with pride. Very much appreciated.

Good morning Bruce and Peter,
I wanted to take a moment to extend my thanks to you both for the lovely pen I received recently. MAJ came back from his ROCL with a box of beautifully crafted pens and I chose one that was engraved with ‘The Grampiens’ and a personalised signed note.
I am both impressed with the gift and humbled that you would take the time and effort to create these for us.
I will definitely put this lovely pen to good use during my deployment.
Many thanks again J
Jacquie.
Hello Pete
A quick email to thank you for your kind gift. Today I received one of the very well hand-made pens for the troops. The one I received unfortunately had no information with it to identify exactly who made it. However the gentleman next to me had one made by you.
In any case, I am very grateful for your kind gesture. Please do spread the word to your network also that this is an overall thank you for you all.
All the best to you and I hope you have a very special Remembrance Day.
Thank you once again.
Best Regards.

Hello Bruce, I am a deployed Air Force member, and the proud recipient of work of art (pen), made by Mik Lawrence. I am blown away by the generosity of you all, your devotion of time and energy into making so many pens for us! We received 2 boxes at work, and I was one of the first to look through all the many designs, each individually crafted and unique. It was certainly a difficult choice to choose my favourite.
My brother turns wood, and has made pens and the like before, so I know how time consuming it is, and how much skill, precision and patience is needed to make a pen that has the right look and feel. I have the 308 cartridge pen, using Jarrah wood. The Australian wood is such a lovely touch, as we do truly miss the Australian landscape.

Again, sincere thanks to you all, particularly Mik, for these gifts for Remembrance Day. You have put a smile on the faces of many sailors/soldiers/airmen, and it is important to know that we are not forgotten back home. Whenever I use my pen, I will remember my time here in the Middle East and the kindness of strangers back in Australia that were behind us.

kind regards
Jo

Good Afternoon Peter,
It feels unjust, that I am writing you a thankyou letter utilising a computer, when I am in receipt of “Red Dog”.

By way of introduction, my name is Kelvin and I am currently serving on OPERATION ACCORDION within the Middle East Region as a Project Manager.

The organisation I work within, Engineer Support Element, manages infrastructure projects to support Australian deployed forces all across the Middle East.

It’s not my first rodeo and unlike others, I still enjoying penning a letter home to my loved ones as I did for my first deployments; when access to phone and computer was difficult to come by. I very much appreciate the time and craftsmanship which you have put into making this pen.

It is very humbling to know that people back home are still thinking of the men and women deployed; serving the nation which we all enjoy.

Yours Sincerely

Some more thank you Emails
Dear Friend
I just wanted to send you a quick email to say thank you for the pens you sent to myself and my three soldiers.
These pens are beautiful pieces that will all be used with pride.
Thank you in particular for the pen from the Kalgoolie Region.
Best Regards
Hi Bruce,
I just wanted to send a big thank you for the amazing pens you sent out to my small little group. The guys liked their surprise and I see them using their pens during our meetings.
Sorry I was too excited to hand them out before taking a photo of them all together.
G'Day Bruce,
Just a quick note to thank you and the volunteers at Pens for the Troops for the 20 pens you sent.
They arrived about two weeks ago and were distributed here
The recipients are officers and soldiers from all three Services currently deployed on Operation OKRA as 'embedded' personnel in the Headquarters Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR).
The Remembrance Day gifts were very well received and greatly appreciated by all. Please pass on our thanks.
If you'd like to send more pens next year I've included the e-mail address
Thanks again for the pens and keep up the great work, cheers,
G’day Pete.
My name is Matt and I’m currently serving in Afghanistan with the Australian Defence Force.
Today I was given one of your handcrafted pens; the “Emu”, I saw your note about the pen and realised how much personal time and effort had gone into making it.
I wanted to send you a quick email of thanks for offering up your time and effort to make such a detailed piece of handcrafted woodwork.
When I get home next year I’ll have some time off work, in that time I’ll be enrolling in a cabinet making short course as it’s a skill that I’ve always wanted to have but never got around to learning. The last time I worked with wood was probably in high school (15 years ago).
Once again, thanks so much for giving up your time to make these pens, I know that most of the Aussies here were pretty excited to receive their own today.
Have a great day.
Regards.

Hi Peter,
I am now a very proud owner of one of your pens ("bloody hell") and really enjoying writing with it and showing it off.
It is a very luxurious and elegant pen. I am using it every day for all my note taking and correspondence.
I love the Zebrano wood, it is very unusual and you have shaped it beautifully. I quickly looked it up on line and found the website below - that you are no doubt familiar with.

I received a handmade pen a little while ago. I was very happy to receive this beautifully crafted pen.
The time and effort that went into making this pen is amazing and I will cherish it, I would love to look at others for my father as he also likes pens.
Thank you for thinking of us.

Bruce,
On behalf of the Lighthorse men and women of Task Group Taji IX, I would like to pass on our warmest thanks for such an outstanding initiative.
The pens made with such care were a delight and are now cherished by our soldiers who have a special memento for a Remembrance Day commemorated on operations. For those of us who have lost mates, this day holds such a great significance. We are absolutely humbled that all these groups have come together to support your program and think of those of us who continue to serve the nation in the ANZAC tradition.
We would like you to pass on our heartfelt thank you to all involved.

I am with the Royal Australian Airforce, stationed in the UAE. I got one of your magnificently crafted pens. I appreciate the work that the craftsman put into it and it will travel with me.
I write a lot of notes at work, and letters home in my spare time. Writing with a quality pen is cathartic and is a great way to process the stresses of being away from my family.
You are doing a great service to even think of the men and women over here in the Middle East and I appreciate your spirit of service.
Kind regards

Dear Mr. Sanders
Please accept my sincerest of thanks for the kind package of hand crafted pens.
I have selected a special item that I will treasure.
The workmanship and generosity evidenced by your gesture is truly appreciated.
This token of appreciation certainly helps us stay connected with home and our fabulous Australian values and way of life.
I am serving a 6.5 month deployment in a logistics role. A truly humbling and life-changing experience. Very busy though!
May I wish you all the very best for a happy Christmas that will hopefully be unaffected by bush fires.
Keep up the great work!
Kind regards

Peter,
I am just about to re-deploy back to Australia but before I do, I just wanted to send you a short thank you note for "Dingo" - the pen you made. I really appreciate the thought and the effort that went into this and be sure that it has been put to good use here (overseas)! Once I return it will be a great reminder of my time here. Thanks again for taking the time and providing such a meaningful contribution to the deployed ADF.

Two more letters of thanks
Good afternoon Mr. Sanders,
I am writing to you from the Middle East to thank you for the gift of pens that you sent through. These pens were distributed amongst ADF members, predominantly personnel of the RAAF, operating here at our base. Our team is here to support Australian and coalition air operations in the Middle East as directed by the Australian government. The pens were very impressive and very popular and have all been shared amongst our fellow Aussies. At present this has satisfied the needs of the ADF presence here, but perhaps if you wished to provide some more, a similar-sized group delivered in the April/May period next year would appeal to the people that will have replaced those that are here now.
To know that our fellow Australian’s back home are thinking of us through gestures such as those of your organisation means a lot to our team, who are away from home for 4 or 6 months.
Regards and best wishes
Dear Mr. Sanders (and all your Pens for the Troops members),
I’m writing to sincerely thank you and your team for providing us with the masterfully handcrafted pens. They arrived just in time for Remembrance Day 2019 and were very warmly received by both Theatre Communications and Air Task Groups; with some friendly bartering over who got which pen. This year we paused operations at 1100 local to attend a multi-national Remembrance Day Ceremony held by our British Allies. It was especially poignant to spend time with our Allies remembering the fallen given that many were/have been involved in the conflicts we commemorated that day. I hope that you too managed to reflect on those who’ve gone before us as we keep up this important tradition – lest we forget.
Kind Regards,

Bruce aka Sam

Good Morning Bruce,

I am just writing to say a big ‘thank you’ for the beautiful pen I received which I believe was made by yourself.

It’s always a big morale booster for troops whilst we are deployed to receive a little something from home and know that our efforts are appreciated by the people back in Australia.

I can tell you that all the pens received by troops in my section were very well received and very much appreciated.

Thank you again Bruce for all your efforts and the work that you put in to making the pens. You managed to put a smile on many of the troop’s faces with your kind gifts.

Best wishes,
