Looking for advice and reviews on pyrography

Hi all, my wife has recently decided she wants to start doing pyrography in her spare time. She's very talented at drawing and after doing a little bit of research after discovering pyrography, has decided she'd like to give it a go.
Basically,we want to find out what machines, handpieces and tips people use and recommend. She has worked out she'd like a hand piece where you're holding closer to the tip, opposed to those that are closer to a soldering iron.

You will get a lot of differing views as there is probably no right answer for everyone, as we all have different preferences and budgets.
I originally used a cheap "soldering iron" type device and agree that you need one that you hold closer to the tip.

I purchased a Razertip from Carrolls, a Forum sponsor and very knowledgeable in this field. They do also sell other types so contacting them for advice may also be useful.

I liked that you could quickly change tips by plugging in a new pen with no fiddly changing of wires. The downside of this was the higher cost.

I really only do tracings and lettering, but found this perfect for my limited needs.

Others who do more artistic original work may offer different views.

I have been doing pyrography for a number of years . I use a Razor Tip machine . This is not a cheap machine but is very reliable and much better than a craft type soldering iron type machines . Myself i have 10 pens , 7 fixed tip and 3 interchangeable ones .
Like most i started with a craft type but as i became more interested in this art i soon realised that i needed more control over mt pen , Having said this my daughter has been using the craft type one for 5 years and does remarkable lettering with it . All depends on your requirements i would recommend dealing with Sue Walters for Razor Tip as she is a pyrographer with many awards for her art .
