Has anyone had any experience with the double ended calipers from carbatec (Double Ended Caliper - 205mm | Calipers - Carbatec (https://www.carbatec.com.au/caliper-double-ended-205mm)) they also come in 350mm. Are the dimensions the overall length or is it the half length they can reach over?

Have a look at this caliper. I designed it and Woodfast produced it.

That would be the overall size of it.
Reasonably easy to use.

I bought one of these used some years ago: Sorby - Calipers, Double-ended (https://www.woodcraft.com/products/sorby-calipers-double-ended?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1fSi9Lee5QIViobACh38YQLnEAQYAiABEgKQ8PD_BwE)

It works fine. The only squawk I have is the new price, which has more than kept up with inflation over the years.

Jim, I thank you for these.

I saw the smaller unit being used by a turner and reckoned that was superior to anything I had used, I bought both of them and haven't looked back.

The smaller unit is perfect for smaller bowls, but is also good for so many other things, it is the right size for quickly measuring stuff.

The larger unit is just as good, with the long throat being the best feature.

I haven't used my double ended caliper, since purchasing your design.

Mick.

Bowl calipers are pretty much a bowl turners stock and trade and to be honest I dont know how many I have.Perhaps around 10-15 some I have bought and some I have made. Making them is very easy all you need is some durable and fairly rigid flat stock, such as polycarbonate, plywood, ali sheet 2-3 mm thick, a bandsaw and and a nut and bolt and your in business.
