G'day
About a year ago I asked for help to ID a tree I was taking down because it was dying . The consensus was that it was New Zealand Christmas tree or Pohutukawa .
Here are the results of turning a couple of blanks . The larger is about 220mm x 75mm and the smaller 130mm x 35mm .I found it a very attractive timber to turn , not too hard and not too soft and finished well with a few coats of DO .Nearly all the roughed out bowls have bark inclusions in them but they still look good . These bowls have evidence of borer damage . Possibly what was killing the tree .
The bowls are now in a plastic bag in the freezer for a few days incase there are some borers still active .
Comments welcome .
