Two pics of my form relief grinder attachment. In the closeup you can see the roller acting on the cam ring. This imparts motion to the rocker arm and the second roller which pushes on the back of the cam ring. The cam pushes one roller sideways and the other roller pushes the cam ring forward. Changing the pivot bolt position changes the mix of sideways and forward movement. I have the work head adjusted to stop radial movement so all i get is forward movement. There are many cams and I select one with the number of lobes to match the cutter flutes. 3 flute countersink uses a 3 flute cam. The cutter is held in the 6 jaw chuck and timed to the cam. When the shaft rotates the roller goes over the lobe just before the cutting edge gets there and the cutter moves backwards. As the cutter rotates further the cam pushes the cutter forward and progressive clearance is ground behind the edge. Trying to learn from the operators manual is BS but there is a 2 week course in the USA. Finding the correct timing prochedure was a PIA but I'm there. This unit can grind countersinks, taps, drills, step drills and other cutters that are form relieved. I think it dates from the mid 70's and it is still in good working condition. All moving parts are hard as hell and there is little wear to be seen. I am slowly improving my skill with it and will soon try the side bars that mount a forward center to locate long taps or porting cutters.
Here I have it mounted to a small Servian T & C grinder but it came on a giant Tos machine that weighs 1.4 ton. That is for later pics and talks.
Have a safe Christmas.
