In another thread ( https://metalworkforums.com/f65/t204...e-8-10mm-steel (https://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/t204277-punch-12mm-hole-8-10mm-steel) ) on the last few pages there has been some discussion on drill bits, brands and prices.
I must admit that I am in the group of buy a good brand and be done with it.
Out in the shed today doing a much needed clean up and a though came me. Apart from a small set of drill bits I bought to keep in a separate room I have not bought any drill bits for over 20 years.
Most of what I have are P&N or Suttons from back when they were two separate companies.
I was spoilt for to long there use to be boxes full of the things that has been slowly used or given away over the years to the stage were a few empty spaces are starting to appear and they will have to be filled.
I use to always try and buy good quality tools and tooling specially if it was part of me making a living but today I am wandering if I am going to do the same in the future.
I suppose its a bit of reality setting in that I don`t have the budget I once had and compromises are going to have to be made in the future. Not just in drill bits.
