does anyone know the name of an Australian lathe maker who used to make tools as well in the 90s, his lathe had a long lever to push the live centre to lock it and he used to make strange looking turning tools as well , was a good designed lathe and his was like the macintosh of lathes, could have started with L, thanks in advance.........bob

Yeah, Leady is probably who you're looking for.

I've one or two of his mortise chucks... very handy doodads.

The Leady bowl lathes and his ring cutter were pretty good.

Yes, Leady was designed by Bruce Leadbetter (also written at times as Leadbeater and Leadbeatter).

Bruce has gone now. He did have some spare parts and castings for his lathe but who knows where they have ended up.

His son Michael who took over his job at Sydney Teachers college has just retired as subject master at Trinity. If anyone would know it would be Michael.

I bought a lathe off Bruce about 13 years ago. Really great old guy he was. I had a few hours with him in his workshop as he showed me how it all worked. Got a couple of chucks, face plates and bits n pieces.
I am still very happy with that lathe.
