Hi All,

New to the Forum and looking at getting started in wood turning.

Not much experience at all other than watching youtube for hours of a night time and making a pen and a small bowl during a Saturday morning wood turning class.

I'm now actively searching which lathe is the best for my intended use along with band saws, sanders, dust collectors etc etc.

Will be starting slowly until i've got some experience and skills and then trying Resin which looks like a lot of fun.

Excited to learn for the experienced here and any help or tips along the way will always be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Nev.

Welcome to the forum Nev. Turning is quite addictive especially pen turning as you can achieve a finished article quickly which is very satisfying for your pride.
Depending on what space you have available will determine what size lathe you end up getting. If you only have a small space a midi lathe will do reasonable size projects but if you have the room get a full size lathe as you can always turn small items on a big lathe but not the other way around. You will get plenty of advice here on what is the best fit for you along with advice on all the other items you wish to purchase in the future.
Hopefully you will be able to show us some of your projects soon.

You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

Just an update - i've been looking at everything I can online and my head is completely spinning.

A visit to Hare and Forbes last weekend for a good look around was very helpful and enjoyable and a visit this Saturday to Carbatec should hopefully give me a little more assistance with what I should be heading towards.

All good - just not wanting to rush into anything too quickly and end up with a garage full of rubbish.
