Gday All.

Ive been slowly mucking about building a portable coolant tank/pump system that I can use on both my lathe and mill.
I have a tank that I made for my old Purcell lathe over 30 years ago, but never got around to finishing.
I'll do a more in depth write up once its finished but for now I just wanted to share this.

The lathe I have now is a McMillan that I inherited when my Dad died back in 2003. Dad had a small coolant tank on it with a small gear pump. Unfortunately it wasn't a real good setup.

My lathe has a relatively flat chip tray with a small (about 16mm dia) hole in it for the coolant to drain through. I'd say my Dad did that when he set up his original coolant tank. The edge of the hole has been swagged down a bit. Under the tray is a shelf where I store the steadies, face plate and some other stuff. I need to fit a hose to the drain hole to direct the returning coolant back to my external tank. I didn't want to have a hose sticking down into the area more than I have to so I've been straining the old gray matter trying to work out a solution. I could easily make a special fitting if I still had oxy but as I don't its just a little bit harder. Rather than rush into spending a lot of time making something I had a look on the net and eventually came across this on Ebay.

$20.99 with free delivery from Qld. How good is that? Its a Caravan/RV/boat sink waste.
The spigot is for 25mm ID hose and the plug is 45 dia. I'll have to enlarge the existing hole and also make a fine strainer but this will allow me to run a pipe across to the side under the tray with out encroaching too much on the space underneath. woo hoo.
