This shows a shop built fly cutter. In answer to Modern Hole saw. The pics are from the drive end and there is a grub screw in the end of the shaft which pushes on a rod that locks the tool bit in place.
I made this to open up a hole in the ram of my mill from 20mm to 40mm when I was mounting my slotter head. 2 G clamps held a piece of 10mm alu plate to the bottom of the casting and a hole in the plate was the guide bush. An old Sidchrome drill with a pipe handle was the powersource. After opening up the hole the slotted bush is slid over the body and the tool extended out for the next cut. The HSS bit could not cut thru the skin of the casting so I knocked it thru with a caping chisel.
A single edge cutter like this is very effective and requires only low power to run. Don't get tangled up in the handle if it jams or you might come tumbling down the step ladder.

BC
