Anyone taken the chance on one of these for a veneer bag pump?

I bought a pair of the 3cfm ones a few years back for a boatbuilding project. They are great. Top up with motor oil. You just need to decide which size suits you. 2x3cfm wasn't much dearer than 1x 6cfm and it allowed me to pull from different places (big moulds) and switch off one when I got close to desired vacuum. Also if one did fail you can isolate it and switch straight to the other one and save the panel.

Making foam panels is much the same problem as veneers.

Look at this way.

You don't really care about quick the pump achieves a vacuum. You only care that it does and can run long enough to maintain the vacuum for the glue to cure. That says almost any vacuum pump will suffice.

The only real problem are the fittings. You will have to adapt the fittings of the pump to the fittings of the vacuum bag.

Yeah, I found a bunch of those on eBay that didn't quite look suitable.

I've figured out a work around for now. A compressor and a venturi. It works quite well.

Probably pull enough vacuum with an old fridge compressor.
