A few years back I purchased the domain Unique hand crafted bowls made in Australia (http://www.Woodturning.Gallery)
My daughter built a website and it went quite well - sold a few pieces!
I’ve not turned for a while so it’s fallen into disuse plus my daughter has lost the password etc!
So I’ve decided to sell the domain name, which I reckon is pretty cool for a wood turner.
There are heaps of pre built websites available quite cheaply - just add your own details and photo’s.
Asking $250
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil, nice woodturning!

Selling a website can be really tricky, hopefully someone in the forums will be interested which will make it easy for you. If not, Godaddy has an auction/sale site you could put it on, does cost about $8USD from memory to sign up for a year.

Good luck!

cheers, Ian

Hi Ian, thanks for the feedback :U
Agreed, buying/selling domain names is not for the faint hearted! This one wasn’t bought as an investment though - I like the name and it felt far more professional having a business card and related email with Woodturning.Gallery as the website rather than something like Philthewoodturner.com
Its not expensive to keep the name so if I don’t sell it, I’ll keep for maybe “one day” when I start turning again!
Cheers

Hopefully you start turning again one day Phil! Put the domain to good use!

I've often wondered about the value or lack of value with domain names, woodturning.com last sold for $9500USD, but for some reason that often doesn't translate to other non .com domains.

I got a pretty cool domain for my daughter who was into photography at the time, but she never really got into putting stuff online, funnily enough there's an Aussie and a Pommie in the same field with the exact same names, I thought about approaching them to offer it for sale, but never got around to it. I figured if they cared at all for it they'd have contacted me to see if I'd sell it. I'll likely hang on to it in case my daughter changes her mind, or may eventually let it lapse.

I think unless your an entrepreneurial type, domain names are mostly only worth something to the one holding it.

cheers, Ian

I guess that’s true of most things. I have a set of augers in immaculate condition. They belonged to my grandfather. I rarely use them, but love it when I do. Money wise they aren’t worth a great deal, but to me.....

A bit that way with this domain. What chance having a “woodturning” domain name website to display and sell your own work? At USD9,500 You’d need to be selling a fair bit of stuff! Aud250, not so much risk there and something to have a bit of fun with 😊
