View Full Version : Bandsaw cutting pressure vs. feed rate

We have 2 Everising full-auto column bandsaws at work and I can't get a straight answer from anyone there or the instruction manual about what the difference between the cutting pressure and feed dials on the control panel actually is. We always just leave them both on 4, but I want to know WHY

The panel looks basically like this; the top dial is pressure, the bottom dial is feed. Blade speed is set independently of these.

I understand that the you set the top dial to the material as indicated but I'm confused about the feed dial; doesn't the pressure dictate the feed? How could you have a high cutting pressure but low feed rate or vice versa? Or does the pressure dial control the cutting pressure along the blade and the feed dial controls pressure down through the material?

I'm very confused :?
