I bought some Hairy Oak through our market place a few weeks and got around to milling one of the two logs today. This was after the first cut:

481764

I then proceeded and cut five 4-5mm veneers off that face after cleaning up on the jointer that are going to be veneered on drawer fronts for a mid-century console that is my next project. Just beautiful stuff!

I also managed to salvage most of the rest of the log in craft sized pieces for pepper mills, pens, and a myriad other sizes. Better than 65% recovery so I am pretty happy with the result.

I have one more log left to do. I didn't want to rush it and botch it up.

Good yield, and it looks like an exceptionally clean log of H.O! I had a coupe of similar-sized logs but got a much lower yield thanks to wood-munching critters and bark inclusions. Not only is it an attractive wood, it's the easiest of the Allocasuarinas to work with, in my experience. Have fun...

Cheers,
