Lots of questions....When using formply for furniture should it be treated like melamine? is the coating on it the same sort of stuff? whats the best sort of blade to use when cutting it i've access to tcg ,atb, and melamine blade?

Treat it like melamine and you will be fine

The coating on the furniture grade formply I have experience with isn’t anywhere near as hard as melamine. In fact it could be dented quite easily (albeit the formply was classroom desks in a high school)

Melamine blade or sharp ATB set about 15mm above the ply thickness.

Personally I don't like TCG much, I talked work into buying a Leitz TCG on special after reading all the marketing/tech stuff and I didn't find it to offer much advantage over the normal ATB grind unless you're cutting ally, acrylic or brass.

Out of curiosity, why use formply for furniture?
Because it matches previous shelving and that ply edge look on other bench work in the house. the project is a bookcases and sliding door cupboard.

Ι love formply, there is practically nothing you can drop on the thing that can't be cleaned up after.
I use it for the top of my assembly/workbench for glue ups, dyeing leather, paint jobs, finishing etc. I also mix 2 part epoxy directly on it, and when the leftover dries I just push it with a spatula and the whole things comes off in one piece. Of course this means you can't glue it up, only edge to edge, so I screw it down on my workbench and when it's been abused for years I just flip it over and screw it down again.

Looks great, Dave. One of the reasons I like formply is that it is cheap. I have a couple of friends who have done their kitchens in it for durability and cost.
