to a blank or unfinished bowl, and any idea of finish they use to dip it in.
i tried colouring techniques for woodturners but by jan sanders, my results were disappointing.

Just click on 'Our Process' on there main web page. It details how they get the dye into the wood, also there finishing technique.

The colour is injected into the tree while it is still growing. No doubt they spent many hours experimenting with this process.

Probably gonna come in for a hiding for this, but here goes anyway.

Nice looking timber but strewth, the turning leaves a lot to be desired. US$175 (approx A$350) for the Blue Aspen Bowl that has pick-out in the bottom and $150 (approx A$300) for the Green Aspen Bowl which appears to have a really bad case of tear-out just below the inner rim. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/eek.gif

None of the items in the gallery have any artistic merit the form and shape is very ordinary to say the least, yet it appears they are selling that junk.

If that's the case then there are thousands of turners here in Oz who are sitting on a gold mine. Maybe we should put a gallery of bowl for sale on here, we could probably turn a lot of you into millionaires.

Sorry Aspen Grove. Love the wood, hate what you've done to it. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/frown.gif

ptc - Have you tried our water dyes. They are easy to use and work well. CLICK HERE (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/ubhome.htm) and then on the link to Water Dyes. By the way, the bowls behind the water dyes were each done in 15 minute demos at a wood show and have 1000 times more artistic flair, style, shape and saleability than the stuff in the Aspen gallery.

Just my very humble opinion. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/rolleyes.gif - Neil

P.S. If you are interested: The bowl with the dark green rim is Camphor Laurel, the yellow one is Jacaranda, (both turned by Doorstop) and the red one is Canadian Birdseye Maple, (turned by me). There is another view of the red and yellow ones in the Shellawac Cream info page.

Good point Neil, I am not a turner and I certainly wouldn't buy them. Looks like they wuz dun wif a big forstner bit.
Then, makes you wonder what people will buy after some of the garbage I have seen sold at the Melbourne WWW. Was mainly imported and roughly glued and lacquered. I have seen equally bad cases in craft (and I use that term very loosely) shops dotted around the country.
