Folks, I'm hardly classify myself as a machinist, but do own a small old Hercus lathe as pictured.

My question is how can I reduce the slop in the rotation of the secondary carriage at the tool post.
I'm not exactly sure if my terms are right or I am conveying my problem correctly.

The winder has about 1/4 turn of free slop in it, where it is in no mans land and also winds in or out during machining if not taped to hold it.:oo:

I've pictured the carriage and it is the top or upper winder that is the problem.

Is there a way of adjusting this or should I assume the thread is worn out and I need to source a replacement part/s? :?

Thanks in anticipation.:2tsup:
