I wanted a narrower seat, so I bent up a pan nearly 50mm narrower that the stock seat. I cut a piece of sheet metal a little wider that I wanted the seat to allow the seat pan base to turn down over the seat rail up to around the shock mount. Once done, I bent the rear section of the seat upward at not quite a right angle, then bent up a cowl to follow the shape of the seat rail at the rear, then welded it to the up turned bit. Unfortunately, it just didn't look right and I tracked it down to the cowl being too high and the sloping back section didn't approximate the angle of the rear of the tank.

So, I cut the top off the upturned bit, bent it down a little and tried to refit the cowl, unfortunately, the cowl now wouldn't fit, not reaching the rear of the rail turn down. To fix, I cut the cowl in half, jiggled it around until it reached the seat rail turn down, tacked it in place and removed the excess metal, then welded it together, but, the cowl didn't quite meet in the, leaving a 2-3mm gap. Easily fixed, fill it with weld. Much better!

Next I welded on a hump over the rear tank bracket. Now came mounting, because the pan was narrower, I couldn't fit hinges and a catch so the seat hinged from the side, insufficient space. Then I sat around for a while considering different mounting options. The front mount was easy, I welded a piece of tube, at a slight down angle, to a right angle bracket and mounted it underneath the tank bracket, then I bent a piece of 10mm rod and welded it to a plate which bolts underneath the seat, a piece of rubber was slid over the 10mm spigot and that slides into the tube bracket mounted under the tank mounting bracket.

Now came the rear mount: Not quite so easy because there was no room between the rear guard and frame to fit a bolt in and bolt from underneath, so I decided to make a feature of the mount. I welded a couple of short bracket to the top of the seat rails, drilled and tapped them then put the seat on, marked the position of the mounting holes on the pan and drilled them out to accept grommets. I then turned up a couple of spaces that double as positive stop T pieces to stop the grommet from being squished, inserted a couple of stainless bolts to hold it in place. A rubber strip will be glued to the underneath of the pan around the periphery, Once the seat is covered, and that sits on the seat rail. So, the seat is now mounted in rubber.

Removing the seat is a simple matter of undoing the two Allen screws and sliding the seat back. Not that there is much underneath, just the battery. The rectifier/regulator is accessed via the side cover, and the starter solenoid is mounted under the battery carrier, out of sight.
