like most Jap bikes of this era, the TX has electric start as well as electric start. The electric start isn't the best design and has proven troublesome for many. This bikes electric started wasn't working when I bought it, but after modifying the tension spring with allows activation of the starter gear it came back on line. Horrid design though makes lots of horrid noises. A lot of owners remove the electric star and just rely on the kickstarter. One of the popular mods for this bike is to also remove the battery and install a large capacitor, similar to the old Brit twins, but of course that also requires a PMA alternator, so it can be an expensive mod.

I went the other way. I can't kickstart bikes anymore, therefore pointless hanging on to it, so I removed the kickstart pinion, gear and lever and turned up an aluminium bung to fill the hole. I retained the original seal and added two O rings, so I don't think that will ever leak. I already have a PMA so not much chance of a flat battery anyway.
